Have you ever heard of dream walking? If not, then prepare to learn all there is to know about it! Dream walking (also called dream linking) is the ability to travel among dreams. The name may sound similar to sleepwalking; however, the dreamer moves within their conscious, rather than in real life.

This may sound confusing or difficult to do, but don’t worry. In this article, you will learn what dream walking is and how to do it (or stop doing it). Keep reading to find out more! By the end of this, you will be eager to begin dream walking.

What is Dream Walking?

Dream walking is having the ability to travel between different dreams. The dreams can be from others, or even another plane of existence. When you dream walk, you are essentially ‘walking’ to another dream and experiencing it. While dream walking, you will be conscious of what is going on around you and be able to remember the dream even after you wake up.

Lucid dreaming is like dream walking. In both instances, the dreamer is aware of what is going on around them. Unlike dreaming walking though, lucid dreaming does not always involve traveling.

Another word you might hear to describe dream walking is Oneironautics. This is another term for the ability to travel within dreams. Oneironautics is named after the Oneirois, which were children of Nyx and the personification of dreams. Often, they were depicted as children with wings coming out of their heads. In ancient Greece, they would appear in dreams, making them dream walkers. For example, in The Iliad, Zeus sends an Oneirois to Agamemnon to inflict nightmarish dreams.

Dream walking doesn’t just involve traveling to dreams of people living in your world. The dreams aren’t really tied to any reality, so there is a possibility you are experiencing a dream from another timeline. If you believe in multiple realities and timelines, then this means you can experience the dreams of someone in the other reality. The dream could be from someone else in a different reality or even an alternate version of you.

A dream from a different version of you could be like your normal dreams, however, small differences will be noticeable. Maybe you have a significant other or different family members. You could even be live a completely different life than you do in your current reality.

You can also use dream walking to communicate with someone you know. For example, if you have a best friend that you want to see, but they are in a different country, you can try dream walking. Doing this allows you to be together on an astral plane. Dreaming with someone else gives you the ability to observe or help when necessary.

How to Dream Walk: Tutorial

To begin dream walking, you should have a basic understanding of lucid dreaming. It is completely okay if you don’t yet though, we will go over both.

First, let’s go over some tips for lucid dreaming;

Keep a Dream Journal: To help lucid dream, it is important to remember all the dreams you have, even if they feel ordinary and mundane. Writing down a dream helps you remember it and keep track of small details.

Stay Calm: If you are really excited to lucid dream, you may not be able to do it. Try not to think about it too hard. Act natural, without focusing too hard and stressing yourself out.

Make a Habit of Asking if you are Dreaming: This may sound a bit silly, but it is really helpful. By asking yourself if you are dreaming throughout the day, you will start saying it by habit. These habits can carry over into dreams, where the answer will be yes.

Speak Your Lucid Dream into Existence: Before you fall asleep, tell yourself, “I will know that I am dreaming”. Using phrases like this is called MILD, or Mnemonic Induction to Lucid Dreaming. You reinforce the statement in your brain, creating a positive affirmation that can come true.

Use these steps above to help you lucid dream, so you will be ready to begin dream walking. The number one thing you should remember is that dream walking doesn’t have a 100% success rate. There will be times where you try to dream walk but just can seem to do it. This is completely normal, just don’t give up!

If you are dream walking with a partner that you know, make sure to be completely honest and open with each other. This will help the dream go smoothly. Dreams can be vulnerable, and you don’t want any negative feelings to come out of it.

Unfortunately, there is no step-by-step guide to dream walking. Everyone experiences it a bit differently, so there is no magic ‘formula’ to dream walking. I can provide advice to begin dream walking though, which will help you on your journey.

Since there are no steps, dream walking can be as simple as connecting to someone’s energy. For example, if you are trying to dream walk with a partner, try to envision their energy as a tangible object. ‘Grab’ the energy and keep it close until you fall asleep. By doing this, their energy can become one with you, letting you dream walk.

Overall, learning to dream walk follows a process similar to learning how to lucid dream. Lucid dreaming becomes dream walking when you step outside of your own dream world. When you get the hang of lucid dreaming, you can break these barriers and experience the dreams of others.

Like I mentioned above, you can also dream walk without even trying. It is possible to have a ‘talent’ for dream walking as well. If you have a knack for connecting to the spiritual world or lucid dreaming, you may be a natural dream walker.

Is Dream Walking Dangerous?

Overall, dream walking poses no big threat to you if done correctly. Dream walkers and lucid dreamers are vulnerable to confusing their life with dreams though. For example, if you dream walk every night, or even several times a day, you may confuse your dreams with reality.

If you dream walk to another plane of existence, there is always the possibility of learning something that really affects you. While dream walking, be cautious of new information. The host of the dream could be from another time and space, so the information they give you could not really make sense at first.

Dream walking with someone that you know can also pose some dangers. If you plan on linking your dream with another person, be sure that you have their consent. The experience will not go well if you enter the dream of someone who does not want you there.

Many pieces of current media about dreams depict them in a dangerous light. For example, in the movie Inception, if you die in the dream, you die in real life. While it makes for a compelling movie plot, this is not true for dream walking. If you die in a dream, it will definitely be scary, but you will wake up fine. There isn’t much information about constantly dying while dream walking though. It will not physically impact you; however, mentally you may be on edge and be afraid to sleep.

How to Stop Dream Walking

Dream walking may sound new and exciting, but sometimes, you just don’t want to do it. It is completely possible to dream walk without wanting to, and it can be tiring. If you have been dream walking for a long time, it can become the new norm. Instead of going to bed and having your own dreams, you could automatically start dream walking by default.

To stop dream walking, try to ground yourself in reality. This may sound confusing too, but to help ground yourself, explore meditation, chakras, and yoga. Working with the solar plexus and root chakras may help ground you in reality and lead to less dream walking. The solar plexus chakra honors your life force, while the root chakra honors the earth beneath you. The root chakra physically and metaphorically grounds you to earth and reality.

Often, you may experience difficulties creating you own dream world and instead, leave to other dreams. Grounding yourself will also help with this. Before you go to bed, create a world in your head that appeals to you. When you fall asleep, you conscious may want to stay there instead of traveling to other dreams.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to other dream walkers and lucid dreamers. There are thousands of people who have experienced this and are more than happy to help you. Try reaching out on forums online and see if anyone with tons of experience can help. Someone will always be willing to help you!

Final Thoughts

Overall, dream walking can help you get a better understanding of those around you. When linking a dream with someone, you are basically peering into their mind and experiencing what they experience.

It can be frustrating to not get the hang of it but remember to keep trying! Most people will not dream walk on their first try; it takes time. Soon, you will be able to dream walk for small amounts of time. These small amounts of time will eventually turn into a full night of dream walking
